NEW YORK DIVISIBLE LOAD OVERWEIGHT PERMIT
This will allow you to haul in excess of 80,000 lbs in NY State and is dependent on the type and configuration of the conveyance.
There are numerous permit types but the 3 most common are;
- Type 1A (5 or 6 axles) allows a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 102,000 lbs.
- Type 7 (6 or more axles) allows a GVW of 107,000 lbs.
- Type 9 (7 or more axles) allows a GVW of 117,000 lbs.
There are four infrastructure-friendly vehicle requirements as follow:
- All lift axles must be steerable or trackable.
- Any air pressure controls for lifts axles must be located outside the cab of the power unit and beyond the reach of occupants of the cab while the power unit is in motion.
- All axles, other than steerable or trackable axles, must be equipped with two tires on each side of the axle.
- All vehicles should be constructed to facilitate a uniform distribution of load within tandem, tridem, and four axle groupings such that no axle in the grouping carriers less than 80% of the weight of any other axle in such grouping. In determining permitted weights, the lowest Gross Axle Weight Rating within a grouping shall be used to limit the weights allowed on all other axles within the grouping.
Permits 1A & 7:
- Model Year 2006 or newer vehicles (power units or trailers) must satisfy all of the 4 requirements listed above.
Permit 9:
Any Model Year vehicle (power unit and trailer) must meet all four criteria listed above.
Model Year is that designated by the vehicle manufacturer in the Vehicle Identification Number.
